Organisation Structure
Chief Commissioner is head of Ahmedabad Customs Zone who exercises administrative control and supervision over four executives Commissionerates viz. Ahmedabad / Jamnagar (Preventive) / Kandla / Mundra and one Commissioner (Appeals) Ahmedabad.

Chief Commissioner monitors proper implementation of Customs laws and border control regulations including instructions/guidelines issued by the Central Government from time to time on administrative, technical and vigilance matters. Chief Commissioner reports directly to Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Ministry of Finance, New Delhi.
Chief Commissioner’s office consists of one Chief Commissioner, one Additional Commissioner, two Deputy / Assistant Commissioners, one Chief Account Officer, 11 Superintendents, 3 Personal Secretaries, 11 inspector and 2 Executive Assistants. They assist in monitoring revenue collection, formulation of trade facilitation measures, preventive and anti-smuggling checks, recovery of arrears, disposal of goods, disposal of pendencies, redressal of grievances and complaints of trade/public. Coordination among Commissionerates within Zone and effective interaction with trade to facilitate import and export operations are also matters being handled by Chief Commissioner’s Office. It also keeps Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs posted of progress in revenue collection and other Customs related work achieved by the Zone through periodic statements and reports. It also analyses the trend of imports and exports for making revenue estimates and plans trade facilitation measures to reduce dwell time.
The Deputy / Assistant Commissioner in Chief Commissioner’s Office is designated as CPIO to handle requests under the RTI Act.
