Brief of Ahmedabad Custom Zone
History
Ahmedabad Customs Zone started functioning with effect from 28th March, 2000 having jurisdiction over State of Gujarat, Union territories of Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. It has a coast-line of about more than 1214 kms, which is 16% of total coast-line of India i.e. 7516 Kms.
Ahmedabad Customs Zone exercises administrative control and supervision over four executive Commissionerates viz. Ahmedabad / Jamnagar (Preventive) / Kandla / Mundra and one Commissioner (Appeals) Ahmedabad.
Ahmedabad Customs Zone is one of the fastest growing Customs Zone in the country in terms of revenue collection which is contributing about 15% of National Customs Revenue. It is also one of the biggest in terms of handling of containerized import and export cargo.
Jurisdiction
Ahmedabad Customs zone is situated in western part of the Country. It has four Executive Commissionerates
- Ahmedabad Customs Commissionerate
- Jamnagar Preventive Commissionerate
- Kandla Customs Commissionerate
- Mundra Customs Commissionerate

Ahmedabad Customs Zone supervises about 35 major / minor ports (wherein Mundra port is one of the largest container handling ports of the country), 14 ICDs, 01 Air Cargo Complex, 01 Foreign Post Office, 02 International Airports, 01 Surat Diamond Bourse, 01 Gift City Ahmedabad and 01 Ship Breaking Yard. The list is as below:

Mundra is a one of the biggest ports in terms of cargo handling in the country and it is being maintained / handled by Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd.
Mundra / Hazira / Sikka / Kandla Ports are ‘All Weather Tidal Ports’ falling in the jurisdiction of the zone and they are built to international standards, with a high level of automation and computerized functioning. The Jurisdictional Ports for Ahmedabad Custom Zone are:

Organisation Structure
Chief Commissioner is head of Ahmedabad Customs Zone who exercises administrative control and supervision over four executives Commissionerates viz. Ahmedabad / Jamnagar (Preventive) / Kandla / Mundra and one Commissioner (Appeals) Ahmedabad.

Chief Commissioner monitors proper implementation of Customs laws and border control regulations including instructions/guidelines issued by the Central Government from time to time on administrative, technical and vigilance matters. Chief Commissioner reports directly to Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Ministry of Finance, New Delhi.
Chief Commissioner’s office consists of one Chief Commissioner, one Additional Commissioner, two Deputy / Assistant Commissioners, one Chief Account Officer, Nine Superintendents, 3 Personal Secretaries, Nine inspector and 2 Tax Assistant. They assist in monitoring revenue collection, formulation of trade facilitation measures, preventive and anti-smuggling checks, recovery of arrears, disposal of goods, disposal of pendencies, redressal of grievances and complaints of trade/public. Coordination among Commissionerates within Zone and effective interaction with trade to facilitate import and export operations are also matters being handled by Chief Commissioner’s Office. It also keeps Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs posted of progress in revenue collection and other Customs related work achieved by the Zone through periodic statements and reports. It also analyses the trend of imports and exports for making revenue estimates and plans trade facilitation measures to reduce dwell time.
The Deputy / Assistant Commissioner in Chief Commissioner’s Office is designated as CPIO to handle requests under the RTI Act.
